Imangi Studios built Temple Run 2 as a follow-up to the runner that helped define the genre on phones. The camera sits behind a treasure hunter fleeing a pursuing creature along winding paths, and the track twists, forks and drops rather than running straight. You swipe to turn corners, jump gaps and slide beneath obstacles, and you tilt the device to shift sideways and line up coin trails. That tilt input is the clearest departure from lane-based runners and gives the movement a more physical feel. Each run is a single continuous attempt with no checkpoints. The path speeds up gradually, and the environments change mid-run into mine carts on rails, zip lines across ravines and narrow ledges above open drops, so the pacing shifts within one session rather than repeating a single backdrop. Different maps carry their own hazards and layouts. Runs typically last from thirty seconds to several minutes depending on skill, and the failure state is abrupt: one missed turn and the creature closes in. Coins collected during runs upgrade abilities such as a coin magnet, a boost, and a shield, and gems allow a run to be resumed after death. Both currencies are purchasable, and rewarded ads provide a free path to gems at the cost of watching video. Characters and outfits are cosmetic. Nothing purchased makes the track easier to read, so high scores still depend on reaction time. It suits players who want a runner with more spatial variety than lane-swapping provides, and who do not mind a control scheme that asks for both hands and some physical movement.

Pro

  • Tilt steering combined with swipe turns produces a more physical sense of movement than lane-switching runners, and it rewards fine adjustment rather than binary inputs.
  • Environments shift within a single run between paths, mine carts and zip lines, which keeps a long attempt visually and mechanically varied rather than repetitive.
  • Upgrades and purchases only affect convenience powers and continues, so a high score still reflects reaction time and route memory rather than money spent.

Con

  • Tilt controls require holding the device steadily with both hands, which makes the game awkward to play while walking, standing or lying down.
  • Rewarded video ads are the main free route to gems, so players avoiding purchases end up watching a considerable number of them.
  • The abrupt failure on a single mistimed turn can feel harsh late in a strong run, particularly when a fork appears with little visual warning.
